Use the Editor like a word processor. The cursor keys
and editing keys (Ins, Del, etc.) work as you might
expect. Use F3 and F4 to mark a block of lines, then use
an AltKey combination (listed in the lower portion of
the main screen) to command an operation on the block.
See "Commands" or "Keys" for details on commands and
editing keys, and "Protocols/Terms" for information
about editing the Protocol and Terminal fields.

To Sort: Mark the top and bottom of a block of lines.
Press AltS. A window will open, listing the fields on
which you may sort: Name, Number, Area Code, Exchange,
Baud, Total Calls and Last Call; as well as the
directions in which you may sort: Asc and Des. Use the
space bar, cursor keys, and Enter to move from field to
field and between the two columns. Number the fields on
which you wish to sort, with "1" being the most
significant field, and "6" being the least. Continued...

Place the numbers in the column under the direction for
each field. Example: Put "1" across from "Baud," under
"Des," to sort by speed, in descending order. When you
have numbered as many fields as you wish, press F10 to
begin the sort--or press Esc to cancel it. The next time
you command Sort, your last chosen fields and directions
will appear as the defaults. Accept them by pressing
F10, edit them in the same way you originally entered
them, or Esc to cancel. Continued...

Help for Help
You cannot sort on Number if you sort on Area Code
and/or Exchange (and vice versa). Sorts on Area Code and
Exchange will probably not be correct if your numbers
are not right justified, in the format "aaa eee nnnn"
(where aaa is an area code, eee is the exchange, and
nnnn is the rest of the number). If the block being
sorted is two or more complete pages, Sort will prompt
whether to sort individual pages or the block as one
unit. See "Page or Block" for more information on that.

To Pack: Mark the top and bottom of a block of lines.
Press AltP. Pack moves the empty lines in the block
to its bottom, pushing the rest to the top. (Empty lines
are those that are filled with blanks in the Name,
Number and Script fields.) If the block being sorted is
two or more complete pages, Pack prompts whether to sort
individual pages or the block as one unit. See "Page or
Block" for more information on that.

The prompt "Page by page or the entire block (P/B)" is
given when the marked block extends over two or more
whole pages (starting on a line number ending in "1",
ending on a line number ending in "0") and the command
is Pack or Sort. Choosing Page (by pressing "P" or "p")
causes all lines to stay on the page where they start.
Choosing Block (by pressing "B" or "b") causes the
command to treat the entire block as one unit. Pressing
Esc closes the prompt window and cancel the command.

To Move: Mark the top and bottom of a block of lines,
then put the cursor where you want to move them. Press
AltM. The block will be inserted ahead of the cursor
line and the line which was at the cursor will be the
next one after the block. (If the cursor is on the last
line, the block will be moved to the end of the file,
and the cursor line will move up.) The cursor cannot be
within the block for Move to work.

To Undo: Press AltU. Undo puts the file and the Editor
into the same condition they were at an earlier time,
when BackUp was called. If an Undo can be made, the U of
"AltU" will be visible in the command key list. A number
to the right of "Undo" will show how many backups are
available for Undo. (The displayed number will change as
BackUp is called or other procedures require the memory
used by Undo.)

Undo
Editor Help
Windows
Help for Help
To BackUp: Press AltB. BackUp saves the condition of the
file and the Editor, to be restored by Undo. BackUp is
also called internally before each operation which
changes the file (other than BackUp and Undo). After
every such operation, and at the start of the session,
the first change made in the Editor also makes a call to
BackUp. (A number displayed to the right of Undo shows
how many backups are available. That number will change
from time to time.)
